Proven Performance - A Case Study

The study reports on the use of an alternative drinking water sanitizer, Huwa-San® DW Peroxide Technology to control Legionellosis in a large hospital campus containing 24 buildings. The hospital was faced with the problem of having to eradicate legionella bacteria from a complex water distribution system without decanting patients or subjecting them to undue stress.

After rigorous risk assessment, the hospital installed a continuous dosing system in March 2006 and the conclusion was that continuous dosing of Huwa-San® DW Peroxide Technology is the best alternative to chlorine dioxide dosing or copper silver ionisation treatment.

The results before and after continuous dosing of Huwa-San® DW require little explanation. Huwa-San® DW dosed at a continuous level of 10ppm to the ring main has eradicated the number of Legionella positive results found in samples taken from the hospital water system.

The results prompted the Hospital to reduce the frequency of microbiological testing from monthly to quarterly. This decision has been ratified as there has not been a Legionella positive result or TVC since continuous dosing began in 2006. Data available on request.
